California Storm Registration

Fall Classic

About the Storm and Team Taurasi

The California Storm Basketball Club was founded in 1997 and since 1998 has been one of just 20 elite Nike-sponsored club basketball programs in the United States.

On January 1, 2009, the Storm became the first girls' basketball club in history to be affiliated with a professional athlete, as the Storm's most elite travel team becomes TEAM TAURASI, sponsored by four time WNBA All-Star and two time U.S. Olympian Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury.

TEAM TAURASI will remain a part of the Storm and Nike programs, but will wear signature apparel specifically designed and approved by Dee.

For three consecutive years the Storm has been one of just 16 teams to receive an automatic bid to Nike Nationals in North Augusta, South Carolina, the most prestigious and exclusive travel team tournament in the nation.

Along with Nike Nationals, the Storm competes in some of the most competitive club basketball events in the country, including the Boo Williams Invitational (Hampton, VA); the End of the Trail (Oregon City, OR); the Summer Slam (New York, NY); the Nike Summer Showcase (Chicago, IL); and the Oasis Invitational (Phoenix, AZ).

Storm alumni include active WNBA players Alana Beard and Iciss Tillis (both first round draft picks out of Duke University) as well as dozens of current and former NCAA Division I stars.

Storm players in the Class 2008 currently playing at Division I schools include Alyssia Brewer (University of Tennessee); Michelle Jenkins (University of Southern California); Casey Morris (Texas Tech); Alex Carbonel (St. Mary's); and Amber Coatney (St. Mary's); Shauna-Lei Kuehu (Hawaii); Shaina-Lei Kuehu (Idaho); Lindsay Louie (Harvard).

Storm players in the Class of 2009 currently playing at Division I schools include Brenna Heater (Cal); Shelby Smith (St. Joseph's); and Brittany Conger (University of San Diego); Ariel Dale (Fordham); Simone Lutu (Cal St Fullerton).

Storm players in the Class of 2010 who have committed to Division I schools include Chelsea Gray (Duke); Sage Romberg (Washington State); Sydney Hadell (Hawaii); Savannah Erskine (San Fransisco).

Mission Statement
The purpose of the California Storm and its coaches are to develop fundamentally complete players who will be prepared to succeed immediately at the collegiate level.

All Storm coaches are experienced, knowledgeable professionals who have proven ability to teach and develop young athletes. Throughout the training process your daughter will be encouraged, valued, and respected, and her welfare and success will always be a primary concern.

In a time when many clubs have no criteria or selection process for choosing coaches, the Storm maintains the highest standards of integrity for our staff members. These standards are evident in all of our coaches' appearance, demeanor, and interaction with your child.

Storm coaches are all volunteers who are offering their time not for personal or financial gain, but for the benefit of student-athletes who have the desire to be great.

Administration
The Storm is administered by the Westside Basketball Club, one of California's oldest and most respected youth basketball organizations. WBC is a not for profit (501c3) organization dedicated to providing opportunity and exposure for young athletes.

All finances are conducted through WBC and monitored and approved by our Board of Directors. Parents' financial obligations will always be clearly explained and accurately invoiced.

Schedule
The Storm competes in the most competitive club basketball events in the country, including:
  • The Boo Williams Battle of the Best, Hampton, VA
  • The End of the Trail, Oregon City, OR
  • The Summer Slam, New York, NY
  • The Summer Showcase, Chicago, IL
  • The Oasis Invitational, Phoenix, AZ
  • Nike Nationals, North Augusta, SC

Events are chosen to provide maximum competitiveness and exposure for your child in a safe environment.

The Storm has also made week-long trips to Honolulu, Hawaii where the club co-sponsored the Island Classic with Mayor Mufi Hannemann, the City of Honolulu, the Kalakaua Basketball Club.

    The Storm Experience
Aside from the competitive value and opportunity for exposure that many events provide, the Storm schedule includes experiences that for many athletes are firsts in their lives, such as our trips to New York City and to the island of Oahu.

During these trips players experience things that are not only unique to our club, but that help build the unity of our teams by strengthening friendships that will endure long after the season.

    Exposure
Storm coaches and administrators are well respected by college coaches and have developed relationships with coaches from virtually every major NCAA Division I College and University in the nation.

Our coaches work continually to find for your daughter the best collegiate opportunity and situation for her future.
